Shure SLX Wireless Systems Smart, Hard-Working, Affordable, Exceptional !

Author: Bret Leon

Published: Oct 30, 2007

Today’s wireless user craves a powerful wireless tool that can be set up quickly and used confidently, day-after-day, night-after-night. Shure’s new SLX UHF Wireless Systems exceed these demands with innovative automatic setup features, such as auto frequency scan and auto transmitter setup, exceptional wireless clarity and legendary Shure microphones. Supporting 20 compatible systems across multiple UHF frequency bands, SLX smoothly integrates into houses of worship, lecture halls, conference rooms and mobile gear cases.

SLX Wireless Systems feature Shure’s patented Audio Reference Companding for crystal-clear sound beyond the limits of conventional wireless technology. Audio Reference Companding is a level-dependent method of compression/decompression (“companding”), recently developed and patented by Shure.

Instead of constant companding across the entire range like traditional wireless systems (causing a whooshing audio artifact known as “breathing”), companding only occurs when needed (generally at very high audio levels). While very high signal levels require some processing, the levels for which SLX companding operates is so high that it makes any companding artifacts truly inaudible. No other wireless system has ever sounded as good; it is virtually indistinguishable from hardwired.

Advanced yet simple

Shure’s new SLX UHF Wireless System goes the extra distance to remove everything complicated about buying and operating wireless microphones. With the press of a button, the SLX auto frequency scan finds the clearest of 980 frequencies across 24 MHz. This way you can always be certain you are operating on the clearest frequency, regardless of location and surrounding RF problems.

Your transmitter stays in touch with your receiver

There are several wireless systems on the market that scan for the clearest frequency, but they all fall short by leaving the transmitter setup to the user to figure out manually. With Shure SLX, simply press two buttons to sync the transmitter frequency with the receiver frequency automatically. Setting up the best frequency has never been faster or more accurate.

Tone Key Squelch keeps all SLX wireless systems perfectly quiet when the transmitter signal is lost or accidentally shut off. For example, occasionally an inexperienced wireless user may (unknowingly) shut the transmitter off after speaking, therefore cutting off the signal being sent to the receiver. When this happens, the receiver will then pick up whatever signal it can find (or no signal at all), generally resulting in an overwhelming static being amplified through the PA system. Tone key squelch eliminates this problem entirely under all circumstances. It operates silently, even negating the need for a mute switch.

Rack and roll security

All rackmount hardware is included, with the SLX wireless system including the antenna mounts for the front of your rack. Shure even provides a set of side rubber bumper mounts to keep the receiver set firmly on top of a rack, guitar amplifier or anywhere you may want to place it.

Shure SLX transmitters operate exclusively on AA type batteries. This is great news as AA batteries are often times easier to find than 9 volt batteries. They are also less expensive and last longer. Expect no less than 8 hours of continuous use from 2 AA batteries.

For the major events where your wireless system may be passed around an audience, Shure’s SLX Systems offer “lockout” features for both power on/off and frequency adjustments. This ensures that an inexperienced user will not accidentally make critical changes to the system and inadvertently affect the performance of the system.

Shure realizes that many SLX Systems will be mounted in a rack for regular, professional use. This is why they designed an “in-line” power transformer for all SLX Systems, as opposed to the “wall-wart” type. With the in-line design, the supply is easily mounted inside of a rack and connected without interfering with multiple outlets positions.

Go with the leader

As the leader in wireless technology worldwide, Shure continues to set the standard for performance and value at nearly every professional price point. Made by Shure in their Chicago factory, quality is monitored to not only meet, but exceed military specifications (like all Shure products have for over 75 years).

Want the best sounding, most reliable wireless on the market? Shure’s introduction of the SLX makes the choice crystal clear. Shure wireless….not just the biggest … the best!
