These are by far the best cans out there. For the price. There is simply no comparision to any other DJ/Remixing headphone for under $150.00. Pioneers are okay but you are just paying for the name, the same with the Technics. I have owned three pairs, it's true that the swivel is weak but the sound is superb and second to none. I have tried Skullcandy, the cheaper Sony's, AKG, and even JVC....yeah I know! I have been in the booth with other DJ's that have used Pioneers and Denons? But anyway, they all suck when compared to these. It's like the mids are missing or something or they distort very easily when the volumes up. When you are mixing music, and dropping the mids and increasing the gain on the other track, other headphones require the monitor volume to be podded up to at least 2 o'clock (+4) in order to hear your transition clearly. That's friggin loud and on the border of distortion. Whereas with the Sony's I stay at 9 o'clock (0)all night and hear EVERYTHING clearly. These will bust my eardrums before the speakers would bust. That's a HUGE difference. I have even maxed them out on my board with no distortion. They don't even require headphone amps but still achieve amazing clarity at high volumes. I just bought the cheaper SONY's for school, but I am taking them back tommorrow. [$]Plus when I am cuttin' bass lines and kicks, you can actually hear and feel the bass in your ears versus turning the volume up. If anybody has anything bad to say about these, I dare you to by a cheaper pair and not realize the difference. Its a reason why we all have owned several pairs and "ALL" dj's use them (whatever the hell that means). A lot of people drive Toyota's and Honda's too.....hmm! Maybe its a Quality thing not a treand!Best around period for under $150. BUY THEM, [$]

I'm a professional DJ and can put headphones to use. I've gone through 3 of these and that's it. They've lasted me about a year max! I orginally had another more expensive brand headphones and loved them. They got stolen and was talked into getting these because "all dj's" use them. Need something that last longer and I don't have to worry about breaking.

Solid, portable pair of DJ headphones
By hedfonesVerified Purchaser from NC on 12/1/2008

14, Cord is plenty long, Strong durable cord
Cons:
Swivel joints break, Uncomfortable
Describe Yourself:

The best thing is probably the cord. Mine's been stepped on, yanked, whipped around, and just about everything else and it has yet to even show signs of wear and tear. After listening to them for quite a few hours however, the speaker's membrane burst in the left ear piece but it still produces great sound and only in certain circumstances can you hear it vibrating. I don't expect any set of headphones to stand up to the volume I was listening to them at so I'm still rather pleased with them.

Bad thing is that not one but BOTH of the little swivel arms have broken and did so about a year after I bought them. They started showing little cracks at about 6 months and then eventually when one day I was putting them on, it folded over on me. The band holding the speakers in place never gives the joints a rest whether they're folded, just sitting on the table, or on your head. I fixed both of them by putting on tiny pipe clamps which seem to have done the very well considering they haven't given me trouble in the past 3 years.

Also they aren't very comfortable and after an hour or so with them on, your ears and the side of your head start to get sore. Since I wear glasses, the leg of my specs that sits on my ear gets smashed between my head and ear and it can get quite painful at times forcing me to stop wearing all together. They don't cup around or totally surround your ears but instead usually squish the tops and bottoms of your ear against your skull.

Other than that however, it's a pretty good set of cans. If you can live with a fix of some sort on the broken swivel arms and don't mind the fashion statement then I'd recommend it.

"Standard for a reason"
By Trance Romance aka Will-PowerVerified Purchaser from Santa Rosa, Ca. on 6/2/2008
Pros:
Clear Sound, Easy To Use, Powerful, Professional Functions, Reasonable price, Stylish, Versatile
Cons:
Breaks Easily, Limited Functions
Best Uses:
Events, Performances, Professional Recording
Describe Yourself:

Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I love this product! These headphones are standard for a reason. I use these as a DJ and they work great not only for performance but when you are performing at a club or an event sometimes monitors can be really loud, so these work great to muffle the piercing sound that comes from loud monitors. I also use them for casual listening on my CD player. Probably the best sounding headphones that actually makes listening to music 10x better. I try alot of products and after using Numark's PHX headphones and seeing all the funtions and options availiable on those headphones, I would have to say that these 700's would score a hands down perfect IF it had the options of the PHX. Now these headphones are very sturdy to an extent but if you are carless with them or or something they will break. Overall.....this is nothing but the best for a great price!! First Product I recommend for DJs/Producers.

I had 3 pair of these over the years, I finally learned my lesson. First pair lasted for a year, second lasted 6 months, third and FINAL pair lasted 2 months. I am sending back to Sony for a new pair, but will only be used for backup. If you need them in a loud location forget it, tons of distortion.

Sound Great, Breaks Easy.
By Twisted DUOVerified Purchaser from Las Vegas, NV on 9/19/2007
Pros:
Improves Sound Quality
Cons:
Breaks Easily, Unreliable
Best Uses:
Events, Performances
Describe Yourself:
Club Dj, Experienced, Professional Musician
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

These headphones are probably the best sounding on the market for the price. Which is why you'll see them on just about every professional dj's head. Only setback with the sound is that they tend to be heavy on the bass frequencies when the volume is turned up high. Great for performances, especially in loud places. Bad for the studio.

My complaint with them is that they break around the joint where the cup is connected to the head band. The "swivel" often splits at the joint as a result of frequent folding. I've owned two pairs in five years of frequent gigging. Both pairs broke at the same seam.
